Cochlear implant
A cochlear implant is an electronic device which is surgically implanted in the inner ear of a person who has severe to profound degree sensory neural type of deafness. Unlike hearing aids, the implant does not make sounds louder or clearer, instead it stimulates the hearing nerve directly thus restores the hearing. A cochlear implant will give the hearing-impaired person, sensation of hearing. It is important to understand that it only provides hearing abilities.
However, it takes time, practice and patience with the combined efforts of professionals and family to develop speech and language in children with congenital deafness. Ear Rehab Centre is the pioneer of cochlear implant technology in Pakistan and introduced this sophisticated technology in June 2000.
