2. Assessment
Cochlear implant candidates undergo a number of routine assessments prior to surgery. |

3. Cochlear Implant Surgery
The surgical procedure usually takes between 2 to 3 hours. The risks involved in cochlear implant surgery are small and compare well with other ear surgeries. |

4. First Sounds– Initial Programming A speech processor program, also known as a Switch On, contains initial settings for pitch and loudness. In follow up sessions programs/maps are customized to meet each person's particular needs |

5. Follow Up In order to attain the greatest benefit from a cochlear implant, candidates should be fully committed to the follow-up mapping sessions designed by their clinical specialist. |
